About Us

Compassionate, Steady and Kindergarten Ready

The Sweetwater County Child Developmental Center (SCCDC) is a private, non-profit organization that has served the children and families in Sweetwater County since 1979.

We are the State of Wyoming’s Early Intervention and Education Program (EIEP) for children ages birth through five residing in Sweetwater County.  We offer a variety of services to help your child meet their developmental milestones and to maximize their developmental progress.  Our certified teachers and therapists provide the following services at no cost to families:

  • Developmental Screenings and Evaluations
  • Cognitive/Pre-Academic Skill Development
  • Social and Emotional Development
  • Occupational, Speech, Feeding and Physical Therapies
  • Family Service Coordination
  • Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP)

We offer free preschool for children receiving specialized instruction and tuition-based preschool for typically developing three to five year-olds. We offer limited scholarships through the Tuition Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) grant for typically developing students who qualify. We use evidence-based curricular materials to support the Wyoming Early Learning Standards, including Core Knowledge Language Arts, Eureka Math, Heggerty Phonological Awareness, Zoo Phonics and Zones of Regulation. The SCCDC uses the Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP) therapy approach with children who struggle with expressive communication.

We receive Sweetwater County 6th Cent Overage Money for Rock Springs Occupancy Expenses, the City of Green River 6th Cent Overage Money for Green River Occupancy Expenses, and Sweetwater County School District #2 contracted services for Child Find.  The Green River and Rock Springs Centers have officially earned recognition from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)—a major milestone and a powerful testament to the high-quality early learning experiences we’re creating every day. Both Centers are already demonstrating excellence in key areas like curriculum, teaching, family engagement, and child development. This is the first big step toward our goal of full NAEYC accreditation.

The Sweetwater County Child Developmental Center received a Wyoming Community Foundation grant made possible by the Dellas and Dorothy Larsen Endowment Fund and was recommended by the WYCF Rock Springs Area Local Board. This grant supported the development of early childhood sensory rooms and equipment in each of our centers. With the variety of sensory options available, the sensory rooms have been useful for children to regulate, allowing them to attend their classrooms for longer periods of time and improving academic performance.
